Announcements:
  • Ian reminded us that pub night will be next Tues at Pipers 6 pm.
  • Rob let us know that the breakfast on November 14th is a go.  Rob has volunteers and will send out the scheduled shortly.  Don’t forget your mask.  Hurrah – back in business!
  • Ian spoke about the golf ball drop.  It will be at the Nanaimo golf club – the exact location to be determined.  Possible date would be in March.   The next step is to get a license and if we can get one soon, we can sell them for Christmas.  We will have 4000 tickets (x $5 each or four for $20!).

The lighter side
Laughing at your own mistakes lengthens your life.
Laughing at your spouse's mistakes shortens it.

Program
Ian introduced Craig Gillis.  He has been a Rotarian since 2001 and a past District Governor.  He believes that rotary funds are the best way of working towards a better world.    His message is that the foundation and the work it does is one of the best ways to do good in the world.
Here are a few slides from his presentation.
The foundation is one of the best places to make the world a better place
It is an extremely well run organization and always gets high ratings for a charitable entity
This graph shows how foundation donations are dealt with with a multi-year plan.  Note how they collect interest over three years to offset operating expenses

A note that signing up to Rotary direct giving is a painless way to give to Rotary.  Even small regular donations add up quickly and give a nice tax receipt as well.
