Bartending, fishing derby, casino and auctions were just some of our fund raising activities for the Bastion project.
1991-1992 Larry Rumming
Joint meeting with Shriners, and a meeting with the Chemainus
Rotary Club followed by an evening at the theatre. The Bastion opened but more money had to be raised - a total of $285000! - so more bartending, casinos etc.
Announcements:
Larry let us know that there will be a work session for Loaves and Fishes on May 24th. He will send out a notice shortly.
Paul reported on youth exchange. We have four very good students to send out this year. We will be looking for host families so if you can host, or know someone that might be interested in hosting, let Paul know.
Jim reported on the garage sale. We came out about $2300 to the good and had leftover items. We may be able to add to our total during the upcoming city trunk sale. Thanks to all Rotarians, friends and relatives that did such a great job setting up and manning the sale.

Crime Beat:
I was robbed at the gas station the other day. I called the police and they came very quickly. They calmed me down but my money was gone. They asked me if I knew who robbed me. I said yes - it was pump number 3.
Program:
Our program tonight was Pennye Nixon. She is the heart of the Etta Projects that spearhead all sorts of fantastic work in Boliva. She spoke to us about the project that we were involved with to build latrines for the locals. These latrines are funded with help from Rotary, the local government and the local people. These folks not only contribute money but also must supply the labour. It probably can't be overstated how much difference this has made to the folks in the villages.
There are many other completed project, many more under way. One of the key aspects of all of this is local involvement and ongoing training.
