Colin's Rotary Minute
Vocational service is the 2nd avenue of Rotary service. The concept of vocational service is rooted in the second object, which calls on Rotarians to encourage and foster:
- High ethical standards in business and professions
- The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
- The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society
Guests: Andrea Thomas and Larry Stevenson from the Island Corridor Foundation.
Visiting Rotarians:
Madhu Toshniwal from the Rotary Club of Arbutus
Famous Rotarians:
Pope Francis from the Rotary Club of Buenos Aires and Roger Northwood of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo North
Announcements:
- Sue reported that we had a cheque for Ed and a thank you card from Jim.
- Don talked about the possibility of getting a full page in the Bulletin. Each Nanaimo club would get a portion of the page for a picture and some lines of copy. Comox Valley is doing this very successfully. We already have 6 to 12 expressions of interest. This would be great way to get our Rotary message out to the community. More info to come.
- Ian updated us about the golf ball drop. (1200 plus sold). Road signs will be going up in the next couple of weeks with the help of local business. A six week social network campaign is starting as well.
- Ed let us know that we received the gaming funds for the club. That will help the Big Brother/Big Sisters, Lunch Munch, in-school mentoring and scholarships.
- Loaves and Fishes is scheduled for Feb 23rd. The can accommodate 8 volunteers this month. Contact Larry if you can attend.

I'm the type of husband that will help my wife look for her chocolate that I ate.
Program:
Andrea Thomas and Larry Stevenson Island Corridor Foundation. Larry has 25 years of railway experience and is the CEO of the foundation.
Larry spoke about the various issues that they face as they try to protect and revitalize rail on Vancouver Island. Below are just a few of the slides from his presentation. In summary, there appears to be a good case for rail on the Island but low political will to get it done.
