Stories
This evening we welcomed Jen from Nanaimo Food Share, Roger's wife Ann Northwood and Alisha from the Rotaract Club!
Membership
Larry shared with us the importance of having more members in the club that are in the trades.  Do you know of someone that you could invite? We are looking at getting a speaker in the would really interest those in the trades to give them an idea of our meetings. Stay tuned for more to come on this!

Community Breakfast
There is a familiarization tour happening at the Salvation Army on friday the 6th at 8:00am.  The next breakfast is on November the 14th and Rob Waine is sending out the scheduling notice.  Jim is also trying to ensure that those that usually come for breakfast are aware of the move to a new location.  He is looking at Loaves and Fishes handing out leaflets to those picking up groceries there. Also for those coming to work the Kitchen is in the old building and the address is 19 Nicol St.

Programs
Looks like over the December holidays, there will not be meetings on December 29th or January 5th.  Barb and Audrey also
asked the club if we would be interested in doing a Kettle Night for our meeting on December 22nd.  Everyone attending the
meeting seemed very keen on this, as it really helps us do even more good in the community!

Vocational Talk

Roger shared some really wonderful stories of his life.  He is from East London and gave us a little background about his father whom joined the Army around 1940 and his mother whom was pregnant was shipped off to Devon. He became a Civil Engineer in London and was a designer of foundations.  In 1966 he came to Canada and joined the Department of Highways in Ontario.  As Roger was sharing this with us you could tell he really had a passion for his work. During this time he designed a Construction Laboratory which could test 6 samples a day, which was so much more efficient as before they would have to send the samples away and took a week or so to find out if it was up to standard.  It was amazing about the compensation for the road construction as if the samples were close there was 25% taken of but sometimes they just didn't pay!  Roger also spoke about bridges and the issues they had and the two reasons why they fall down! One is that the metal trusses being hit by trucks and the other is that the steel structures are very difficult build and can go out of shape and collapse. Roger loves to go under bridges!
In Roger's Rotary life, he is most proud of both his involvement with the Polio Plus program  and the Student Exchange Program and has really enjoyed visiting the students after they return home and have their own kids.  Thanks Roger for sharing some really portions of your life!
No Birthdays this week!
Craig had a great time on his holiday from Istanbul to Barcelona
Audrey is happy to be back but and sounds like a wonderful food experience!  Lots of Lobster!
