September 16th, 2014 meeting
Dinner at New York Pizza on Dover Road was very fine. We had lots of visitors and we did some business before getting down to eating, drinking and being social.
Barbara’s mom Rose and dad Bud were with us. Bas for Holland and Sarah, Barney’s wife joined us as well. Our soon to be new member, Suzie joined us as did my sister Danielle.
Jim and Lee have announced that we are holding the Club's annual Beer and Burger event in conjunction with the kickoff of the Citrus Sale. The date is Tuesday November 4 at 6 PM at the north end White Spot. Tickets are 20.00. The committee is seeking donations of items or services for the silent auction. Funds raised from this event will go to pay for such charitable causes such as our monthly breakfast and the many other things we do to help our community. The items or services could include a dinner for 4 hosted by you, preserves, baking, items you have bought at previous auctions that you have absolutely no use for. Please think about what you can contribute and invite friends or family to attend. We have room for about 80 so first come first serve on the ticket sales. Gill offered to organize the silent auction.

The highlights of the evening were Gill presenting a Paul Harris to Barney in recognition of his and his wife Sarah’s support of the Student Exchange program. They have hosted 9 foreign students over the years. Thank you Barney and Sarah. Bill also received his second Paul Harris. Way to go Bill.
Also, we had to vote on a motion from Rotary International about making the annual theme of Rotary ‘Service Above Self’ a permanent theme rather than the current practice of every incoming president having their individual theme. The motion was passed unanimously.
Gill announced a fundraiser for the Vancouver Island Symphony to be held on Monday September 22nd at the Coast Bastion Hotel Ballroom. It is a Free event to celebrate the launch of the PlayOn! Nanaimo deck of paying cards. Drop in between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and view 54 original artworks by 14 Vancouver Island Artists which make up a deck of paying cards. There are also 21 prizes to be won!
Glynis announced that our own Ian was running for City Council and that they were hold a fund raiser. Check with her for tickets.
Hope you enjoy the pictures which were taken by Don. Thank you so much Don.
