Tonight Colin talked about Rotary District conference. It is for all club members and spouses. It’s good fun, has inspirational speakers and updates us with lots of information about Rotary. Many members attend these conferences every year. It also builds better friendships between our own club members and with Rotarians from other clubs.

Foundation Notes
Rotary Foundation
New rules make it even more import to contribute to the Rotary Foundation. Starting this Rotary year, the contributions a club makes affects the grants that they are able to apply for. We are a club that uses these grants and we want to be able to take full advantage of the funds that can be made available to us.
If you are not a regular contributor, or perhaps you’ve never contributed, I would really like to encourage you to start. Some of our members contribution annually and some contribute monthly. For the price of a couple of coffees each month - $10? – you can make an amazing difference.
The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world.
Our mission
The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
What impact can one donation have?
For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
$500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
The Rotary Foundation helps fund our humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. Your club can apply for grants from the Foundation to invest in projects and provide scholarships. The Foundation also leads the charge on worldwide Rotary campaigns such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Rotarians and friends of Rotary support the Foundation’s work through voluntary contributions.

Janice holds a certificate in Community Leadership through Vancouver Island University and has received her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation. She has a combined 20 plus years’ progressive leadership experience in corporate, a national non-profit, higher education and community volunteering. She currently serves as President of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak and as Policy & Advocacy Chair and Board Secretary with the Haven Society.
Janice filled us in about the progress on the ICU. It is coming along very nicely and will (hopefully) be in operation in about a year and half's time. This is a much needed upgrade for our hospital that serves 450,000 people north of the Malahat. She had a short video to show off the work and she answered questions from the members.
