A brief Rotary history. The first Rotary club was in Chicago IL, USA and started on February 23, 1905. Formed by Paul Harris who wish to recapture the friendly spirit he had felt from the small towns of his youth.
The name 'Rotary' came from the early practice of rotating the meetings at the offices of the members of the club.

Visiting Rotarians:
Madhu Toshniwal from the Rotary Club of Arbutus
Announcements:
- The district has asked clubs to provide a mission status and Glynis brought up the following. 'We provide service to all, and promote integrity, inclusivity, goodwill and peace through our fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.' There was general agreement on the statement.
- Rob noted that the last Loaves and Fishes was attended by Rob, Jim, Sheila and Bill Grace.
- Don noted that the once a month full page in the newspaper project is underway. They have 7 confirmed advertisers and the cost is $411 for six months. It's really an amazing deal.
- Shelia told us that she had boxes of masks and if someone knows of a place in need, they should get in touch with her.
- Ian noted that the golf ball drop is moving along. Thanks to the committee members Ian, Bob, Don and Jim for their hard work. February saw 640 balls sold for a total 1436. CHEK TV will be here for the drop which should help with the final push.

Program:
Derek introduced Erden Eruc. Erden is an accomplished athlete, a ocean rower and an adventurer. He also holds 14 Guinness World records!
Erden Eruc
Erden spoke about how he got into his various adventures - particularly his solo rowing events.
He uses his activities to champion various causes including attention to the amount of plastic debris thrown into the ocean. This includes various cleanup activities around the world. He also spoke about an initiative in Costa Rica that would take 'dirty' plastic and use it as an additive to concrete.
Before launching his expeditions, he established the nonprofit Around-n-Over in Seattle with a mission to educate and inspire people, especially children. Since then he has raised over 100,000 USD for educational projects and held many conference calls with distant classrooms by satellite phone from his rowboat to make an effort to meet students in their classrooms during his journeys.
His next adventure will be a ten month expedition to row from San Francisco to Hong Kong to raise awareness for ocean contamination.
