- Jeff advises that since Tina’s Diner is closing, we’ve had to find new suppliers for Community Breakfast. He says that a local farmer will continue to supply and deliver the eggs. Good work, Jeff.
- PETS – Lee gave a short report on PETS.
Nanaimo Heritage Day:
A group of community leaders, including our own Jeff Tomlinson, has formed a working group to create a community event on the May long weekend to replace Empire Days. Ultimately, a new society will take over the initiative. In the interim, they need an organization to hold funds in trust, to pay invoices and to ultimately transfer remaining funds to the new society. There was unanimous support for the idea and the matter has been referred to our Executive for a recommendation and motion.
Program:
Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island – Paulyn Robinson, Program Manager and Heather Tysowski, Event Coordinator. The mission of BBBSCVI is to make a difference in the lives of children. N. North Rotary was the first sponsor of the In-School Mentoring Program. Since 2004, 145 kids have been part of the program. Volunteers spend time with their “mentee” once a week and make a tremendous and positive impact on these young people. There’s always room for more mentors! Heather spoke about the Bowl-For-Kids Event to be held at Brechin Lanes on April 18 & 19. There are tons of prizes available including 2 Westjet tickets. Some sponsorships are still available. AND there’s still room for teams. Sounds like a blast – any bowlers in our Club??
