August 12, 2014
We had visitors this week Barry, Katy and Vincent.
No pictures this week, however, Craig has posted some on the website.
Barry presented past President Jeff with three fabulous awards for RI and the District. One for most new members for a small club, one for member retention and, from RI, Jeff and the club received the significant Achievement Award for 2013/14 for the breakfast program. This is in recognition of a project with addresses a pressing need in the community. Sure is cool to be recognized but, for me and I think for many others in the club, this project is a great time for us to get together while doing something meaningful for the community.
Erin Burden was our speaker. Erin was born in Rhodesia now known as Zimbabwe, a part of the world our club has done many projects. Erin is very passionate about giving back to her home country and one way she is working towards is helping young women by providing them with a feminine hygiene product. Erin has partnered with an organization in Vancouver [
Zimbabwe Gecko Society] who will ship the products. For more information, go to

Symphony by the Sea was wonderful. The donations were amazing. I don’t know if I am allowed to say how much we collected so if you really need to know, ask Jim. This year, we didn’t have to ask for the money, most people already had their donation ready and we just collected it. Pauline was very impressed with the fact that people just kept throwing money at her and she has already volunteered for next year.
Our next Rotary Breakfast is August 16th and if you want to volunteer, let Jeff know.
Dues are due.
On August 19th, we are offsite again – we will be a New York Pizza NORTH END – on Dover Road. This is spousal night. Please RSVP Audrey or Barbara. The Speaker will be Andre Sullivan and he will be speaking on the E&N Trail.
On August 26th, we will be at Gill’s home and we will have some baby talks.
HUGE IMPORTANT MESSAGE – We have not host families for Bas Bakker who is our inbound Exchange Student. It is of great importance that we identify his first host family and pass along this information to him and his family ASAP. Even though Bas will be attending Dover Bay, the host family does not need to live in the Dover Bay catchment area. In Holland, Bas travels 1 ½ hours by bus to get to his school. Also, host families can be and often are non-Rotarians.
Have a great week everyone.
