Rob asked How much was donated to the foundation in 2013-14?  The table with the closest guess got to eat first.  Answer $259.6 million!!!!!

Announcements:

Popcorn Sales: At the Santa Claus Parade, Ed is organizing this and I believe he has enough volunteers at this time.

Community breakfast - Jim thanked everyone that came and helped out.  Sounds like everyone enjoyed the spacious facilities at the Salvation Army and  it
went very well.  Jim thought maybe there was a few less than usual.  It was also great that the Chef from the SA was there to help and was excited the club
was doing this.  Although there was a rumor of green eggs!

Brechin School: Bill is still looking for more help on Saturday Nov 21st and Sunday 22nd. Please contact him if you are available.

Rotary Foundation Minute - By Colin Heasley - What is SHARE, and why is it called SHARE.
Through SHARE Rotary districts share in the decision-making process by choosing which Rotary Foundation programs they wish to support and participate in. Rotarians SHARE their resources with their fellow Rotarians around the world.  The Rotary Foundation Trustees SHARE some of their decision-making with the Rotary Districts and Rotarians SHARE Rotary with the world through their Rotary Foundation.

Foundation Month - Doug and Rod
Doug shared with us :  *Great Scholarship Pictures of him and the students that have received them.
*Our Disaster Aid Contribution - Rather than a single box (one family) they are getting a new roof and a mattress
*Ghana Project because  the currency inflation will affect our donation the current of $500 for our club and the Duncan Club will change.
We will have to wait and see what the outcome will be.
*New Project for next year, Suzy along with another dentist from the Duncan club are looking into A Vocational Training Team.
*ETTA-Penny Nixon-West, Suzy, Rod, Paul, and Doug are working on a project grant and this is a max of $3700us.
*Alicia Mark- Rotaract Rep -setting a great example for her peers with her volunteerism! What a gift to us.
*Joan Ryan Past Pres of the Downtown Club is now the District Youth Rep for District 5020 Board and Doug Pearson has been appointed
as District 5020 Island Rep for Ryla and Rotaract.  Congrats Doug and Joan!!
Rod spoke of What we can do for Matching Grants from the World Community Service. Rod, Doug, Suzy and Sue attended a seminar for the foundation grants as clubs need to attend before they can apply.  The Foundation is very keen to help the clubs complete the process correctly.
One interesting highlight is that Global Grants over $30,000 can be both local or international.  Thanks Rod and Doug for interesting info!

Vocational Talk-Larry Rumming

Larry was born in Nanaimo!  He shared with us that at the age of 5 almost died of Dysentery. He went to Bayview School and missed many days because of his illness.  The family moved to Chemainus when he was 12 as his father worked at Crofton. When he was 15, Larry wired the house that they were living in. One of the most valuable lessons that Larry learnt from his father was on trying your best even if you failed. Larry's great ambition was to be a Cartographic Draftsman and draw maps.  He tried to join the military, worked for the gov., forestry and then Mcmillan Bloedel in Vancouver, until he convinced them to located a mapping dept. in Nanaimo. Where he became the Supervisor of Administration, and took Business Management courses at night. Mapping became computerized and lost its appeal and thats when Larry was offered a position in HR.  In April 2000, Larry retired!  Well, he then decided to start his own business (CrossRoads) for small business, the went on to employment counseling which was his most rewarding job. Larry joined Rotary in 1985 -Wow, a Rotarian for 30 years! Thanks Larry for sharing your interesting stories of your life!
