News and Updates
Larry Rumming shared an update for the Trades Information Evening coming April 14th ,7 pm-9pm to be held up at VIU. Sounds like it is well organized and the poster is on our Facebook and posters have been distributed to the Employment Centres in Parksville, Nanaimo, Ladysmith and Duncan. Numerous speakers have been confirmed and just waiting to hear from VIU, BC Hydro and MT Benson Mechanical. Also Rotary, VIU, SD#68 ITA, STEP, and potential business's will have display tables in the foyer. Admission is free but would appreciate any donations from attendees towards a trades bursary.
Jim Turley reported on behalf of Ed that saturday at the Plaza went well, whith $300 in Popcorn donations! Also around 100 50/50 Tickets were sold!!! Way to go.
Jim also talked about the May 28th Coupon Day for the downtown merchants. This is exciting as all monies raised will go to unrestricted funds which gives us less guidelines. We have 20 business's signed up for the Shop and Dine Day giving coupon owners 20% off . Of the 20 stores and restaurants, some have 20% off everything and others its specific items. Should be fun, and tickets are almost ready to sell!
Tonights Speaker - Rob Waine on his PETS Experience
Rob recently spent the weekend at PETS which is held at the Doubetree Hotel at Seatac. He did have a room buddy from Creston which was a funny storey and he missed the first morning of the conferance, and he ran into Al Richmond , whom was a member of our club a while back and Al is going to be President of a Langley Club next year. Rob shared a video of Brad Howard at the Conference and he was a great motivational speaker. He shared the Polio numbers which in the beginning was 350,000 and last year 74 and this year its 2, with no cases in the last 2 months! Definitely something to celebrate. Brad also spoke of why do we join Rotary ? Is it the FOOD? Who is our Competion? Would it be other clubs like Lions or Kiwanis, or is it LIFE? He gave a funny and informative talk and it all came down to one lady he spoke to said " Rotary makes me a better person and gives me amazing opportunities that I wouldn't have had." He spoke of how him being in Rotary added value to his children as they also saw things they wouldn't have. Rotary is not a Service Club with membership, its a membership organization that does Service. What do you believe? Do you stay in Rotary because of the food?

Sadly no birthday's so no singing! But it is Greg's 6th Anniversary with Rotary. Congrats!
