March 22 is World Water Day

As the coordinating agency for this years World Water Day, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will be host to the official ceremony of UN-Water World Water Day 2012 at its Headquarters in Rome, Italy on March 22. A variety of speakers will be invited to give their perspectives on this years topic of ‘Water and Food Security’.
World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of water and advocating for the
sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater
was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development
(UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the
first World Water Day.
