Meeting: November 20, 2018

Guests:  Ann Northwood and exchange students Ayu (Japan), Julia (Columbia), Dorien (Netherlands)

Visiting Rotarians: None

Foundation Month:

Don’t forget that November is foundation month.  It’s a great time to make a donation with time to get your tax receipt.  There is no better way to make a difference.  You might even consider a donation instead of a gift for those hard to buy for friends.

Announcements:

  • Loaves and Fishes next week.
  • Brechin breakfast coming up and the ski swap is this weekend. A couple more volunteers would be great.
  • Last weekend was our monthly breakfast.  Lots of people turned out - we did between 250 and 300 meals and ran out of food items.
  • Craft Fair follow up from Bob.  We can look for somewhere in the range of $2500 or more for this project.  More volunteers for this one but it should be fairly straightforward work for the money.  No prep work and no pre sales of tickets!  The dates are the 14th, 15th and 16th of December at Nanaimo North Mall.
  • Christmas Cards are now available for $16.  We have 50 sets with 12 already sold.  Send Don or Ed an email if you would like some for your Christmas mail.
  • Coffee is being restocked so Barney will have some on hand.  A great Christmas gift for those hard to buy for friends and relatives.
Birthdays:
  • Colin on November 3rd.
  • Craig on November 18th
Anniversaries:
  • Bob - 10th anniversary in the club
  • Larry and Alphonse had their 48th anniversary.

Points to Ponder:

How come you never see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”?  (Jay Leno)

Program:

Our exchange student Dorien was our program tonight and she talked about the exchange student trip that she just returned from.  During the first few days, they went to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Universal Studios.  Sunday, they went to Hollywood to see the sights including the stars in the sidewalk.  Monday was spent at the beach since no trip to California would be complete without some surfing!

She had a short video of her trip that she shared and it definitely looked like they had a lot of fun.  Possibly the only thing that they were short on was sleep.
