Rob has been in discussions with Haven Society and we will be catering a staff appreciation breakfast and looking at the work that needs done to repair the old Transition House.
Sheila announced that she would fund a Project Amigo student on behalf of the club. Hopefully this will help with member engagement and participation. Sponsored students are required to write a letter ( email ) each month to their sponsor. The club will receive the letter and individual members can reply. Sheila has had a very positive experience with her current student. Names of new students entering high school and needing sponsorship will be available shortly.

MEMBER PROFILE - Peter Siemens
I was born in a Refuge Camp in what is now Poland in spring 1944. My single mother immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in late August 1948 with 3 children and we spent the next 10 years in the farming Community of Winkler and then moved to Winnipeg.
I started working full time at 16 to help support my mother and co-signed a mortgage as women could not sign mortgages by themselves at that time! At 19 I was the youngest Data Processing Manager in Canada programming and running a computer installation.
I became Managing Partner of a Plumbing and Heating company in Winnipeg and sold my interest 11 years later. I then moved on to be the Technical Director and General Manager of Palliser Furniture for 7 years. I then helped rebuild financially a Biotechnology company and rebuilt it into Cangene which had a market cap of $2 Billion 6 years later. As part of that deal, I also created Apotex Fermentation and Biotechnology. Later as a consultant I helped rebuild 5 financially challenged companies for the Banks involved.
Carol-Ann and I married on September 18, 1998. Previously, I had two daughters the elder unfortunately died two days short of her 16th birthday. My younger daughter Shannon is a pharmacist in Winnipeg and has three daughters who are all in university, two at U of M and one at UBC. My longtime hobby is hiking which I did all over Manitoba and now on the island. During my whole working life, I always did volunteer work with homeless and mentally challenged people.
And now I love my retirement in Nanaimo BC, playing golf and helping out at Loaves and Fishes.
