Announcements:
  • Colin gave the Rotary minute - this week told us about what a Paul Harris fellow is and also what a major donor is.
  • Don't forget that next week is Loaves and Fishes. Larry thanked the Rotarians that helped out with the Canucks Alumni hockey game held here in Nanaimo to benefit Loaves and Fishes. They were very appreciative and the money raised will help them continue their excellent work.
  • Jim reminded us about the April 30th Beer and Burger night at White Spot.  Jim has tickets and please note that they will not be available for purchase at the door.  Remember to bring along something for the silent auction. A couple of volunteers would be great to help Jim out with setup about 5 pm that night.
  • Ed has the new ball caps in. They are $20 per cap - see Ed for yours and there are some if you hadn’t ordered one earlier.  They are great to wear to Rotary events and will cover your head at the breakfast!
  • Bob let us know about a ‘Picnic Patio’ project for Longwood Brewery. We will get an email shortly about helping out with this work. The club will get a stipend and a plaque.  BYOB (Buy your own beer!)
Birthdays:
  • Rob Waine (song to follow at a later date)
  • Doug Pearson (we did sing to him!)
Next year Doug needs a bigger cake!

Anniversaries:
  • Jim and Maryanne - 45 years.
Survey Says:
A recent survey found that 100% of those asked said that their driving skills were better than the average.

Program:
The program tonight was a our own Tyler Brown. He was born in Nanaimo and has lived here most of his life except for some grad work in Glasgow.  He moved to Campbell River as engineer and then to attend VIU in business and then switching to Geography and Liberal arts. Then on to his master’s in Urban planning here in Nanaimo and where he recently was elected to  City council.
He has been married for two years and is Dad to two small children which meant that he had to go home early for bedtime. We assume it was for his children’s bedtime but with two small ones it might be lining up his own nap!
Thanks Tyler for letting us get to know you better.

Here are some photos from the last breakfast.
