Program:

Our original speaker was unavailable but Rob Dodds from the Oceanside club was visiting with an update on their James Bond night.  Over the years,  the Oceanside club has had great success with this event and have had net profits in the tens of thousands.  However, membership started to decline at the Oceanside club so they took a couple of years out.  As membership improved, they restarted the event although at a smaller level.  Recently they have decided that they would like to see if they can take the night back to the larger success they enjoyed a few years ago.
They would like to go back to Beban for the larger event.   To do this, they have calculated that they need 100+ volunteers over the couple of days prior to and including the night.  The next date is June 1st, but securing the venue is still a bit up in the air.  If the venue does not work out then the next event will be 2020.
One thought they have is the possibility of using a commission approach for selling tickets.

Stories
Tree Planting Day at Beban Park
On Sunday September 23rd, our volunteers along with those from other clubs in area 4 marked the beginning of National Forest Week by planting trees on the bank below Merle Logan Fields (2253 Dorman Road).  Planning was started in the previous Rotary year under Jim Turley, but the project was postponed by request of Nanaimo Parks.  Thanks to city parks staff for their support; they dug many of the holes, delivered the trees, provided mulch and symbiotic mycorrhizae for the roots.
