Colin's Rotary Minute:
INTERNATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF A ROTARIAN.
As an international organization, Rotary offers each member unique opportunities to take a somewhat different view of international affairs. In the early 1950s a Rotary philosophy was adopted to describe how a Rotarian can be world-minded. A Rotarian:
• looks beyond national patriotism and considers themselves as sharing responsibility for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace;
• resists any tendency to act in terms of national or racial superiority;
• seeks and develops common grounds for agreement with peoples of other lands;
• defends the rule of law and order to preserve the liberty of the individual so that they may enjoy freedom of thought, speech and assembly, and freedom from persecution, aggression, want and fear;
• supports action directed toward improving standards of living for all peoples, realizing that poverty anywhere endangers prosperity everywhere;
• upholds the principles of justice for mankind;
• strives always to promote peace between nations and prepares to make personal sacrifices for that ideal;
• urges and practices a spirit of understanding of every other man's beliefs as a step toward international goodwill, recognizing that there are certain basic moral and spiritual standards which will ensure a richer, fuller life.

Ed and Jim talked about Family Fun Day. While the basic volunteering spots are convered there is a need for more volunteers. We need a security detail as well as help with the dog parade, popcorn, selling bracelets etc. C'mon members get out and help! Family Fun Day is also our first venture into the corn boiling world and we're not sure what the propane consumption rate of our burners will be, To be on the safe side we want to have backup and would prefer not to have to buy extra tanks so if you have a propane tank or tanks that we can use for the event please let Ed know me know.
Ian confirmed that the Mexico Social was a geat success. Next Social will be in October followed by a Christmas bash. Keep tuned.

Derek introduced Andrew M.A. Reed a lawyer with the firm of Johnston Franklin Bishop. Andrew gave a very thorough presentation about Wills and Estates followed by questions from the members and a lot of discussion. NOTE: Andrew was not giving advice, just highlighting the issues and the law. He recommends that everyone talk to their own lawyer about their particular situation.
