Colin's Rotary History: (as told by Larry)
2001/2002 Bruce Coleman ( Mr Rotary) was Rotarian of the year while Rob Wayne was President. The first Joint Project for the 5 Nanaimo Clubs was recognised. We raised $50,00 towards the picnic and bathroom facilities at the Northfield Parkway Rest Area. The 5 clubs also planted 2300 daffodil bulbs along the Parkway Trail. Fundraisers included bartending, Citrus sales, hockey timekeeping, bingo and an auction. We hosted a GSE team from Vladivostok. Lots of fellowship events including a boat cruise and dinner at the Dingy Dock, bowling and an interclub dinner.
2002/2003 Sheila Anderson was President and Gill Campbell was Rotarian of the year. Ross White from the downtown club was District Governor and the District Conference was held in Nanaimo. The 5 clubs raised money for the community of Badge, NL which had been flooded. Our own fundraisers included the Doggie Dream House competition, Citrus sales, bar tending, art calendar sales, bingo and a Polio fundraised at Nanaimo Theatre Group's Bailey Studio. For fellowship we had a team take part n Ladysmith Rotary's "Yellow Point Pant and Paddle" I don't remember if we did well...but it was a fun day! The RI Convention was held in Brisbane.

Program: Rob Wayne stepped up at the last minute to give us a presentation of another of his wonderful travel trips- this time to Japan. He and Barb visited after their stay in Korea and were shown around the cities of Tokyo and Kyoto by friends and relatives of friends! The takeaways from the visit - how clean and safe everything is, how efficient the transportation system in Tokyo is and how welcoming and helpful are the people.
