  •  AG Wayne Anderson encouraged our club to apply for the Literacy Award which will be presented at the District Training & Conference in Victoria in May.

Committee reports:
  • Loaves & Fishes Service Project – Larry reported 8 in attendance last week, but we processed the food in record time! (see pictures in story below).
  • Mid Island Group (Global Service) – Rod reported that the Bolivia project to build 81 latrines in a mountainous region was approved by R.I. on Dec 17th.
  • John Pike presented a cheque for $1,000 to the club from Harbour City Bingo.
  • Public Image – Don reported that the group is planning a five-club event in the Spring where the guest speaker will be Pennye Nixon, Founder and Director of Operations of Etta Projects.
 
Health of the Club:
  • Serena is recovering from surgery last week
  • Don Wallace (past member) has advanced dementia
  • Norm Henderson (past member) recently celebrated his 100th birthday
 
Program:
 
Our speaker was Dale Harvey, who is on the boards of Nanaimo Family Life Assoc. and Nanaimo Seniors Task Force. His topic was “Age Friendly City Plan”. The task force is putting together a document for City approval prior to seeking World Health Organization designation as an Age Friendly City. The document will address 9 “domains of age friendliness” : outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, health & community services, respect & social inclusion, civic participation, volunteerism & employment, communications & information, food security & healthy eating.
   
     
Next week’s speaker – Marie Rickwood (Derek’s mother) on the subject – Joy of Writing. This will be a spousal night.
