Foundation Minute - this week's topic was the Permanent Fund which is the Foundation's endowment. The principal of a gift to the Permanent Fund is never spent, but is invested in perpetuity. Each year, about $8 million in earnings from the Permanent Fund is used to support Foundation Programs.
Member Moment - Ian Thorpe was invited to join by his late cousin, Bob Gold. Ian appreciates the opportunity to be part of doing good in the community and around the world.

Rotaract 50th Anniversary - president Caitlin Mangiacasale-Ashford invited all sponsoring clubs to attend their celebration on Monday, March 12 6:30 PM; VIU building 356, room 109. Popcorn, coffee & tea provided.
RYLA interviews - Rob Waine reported that the interviews were completed and 5 students were selected to participate.
District Conference - May 4,5 in Tacoma, Washington.

Nanoose Edibles open house - Jamie said it will be March 30 - April 2 for the Easter Long Weekend.
Dragon Boat Beer Garden - Gill said to keep the July 6 - 8 weekend open for volunteering at the festival.
New Zealand Friendship Exchange - Gill is looking for beds for six New Zealand couples staying in Nanaimo on the nights of September 11, 12 & 13, then going on to other Clubs in our District. . Gill & Chris will be going to New Zealand next March.
Motion; "The Rotary Club of Nanaimo North provide the Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak with $1000 USD in support of funding the Tri-Ratna Cooperative School Re-Building Project in Nepal". Moved by Rod Smith, Seconded by Ed Poli; passed unanimously.
Program; Peter Bartok gave his presentation on his exchange experience. He said that living abroad made him appreciate his home country. He decided to return home so that he could rejoin his hockey team and complete his schooling without delay.
Dori Miller spoke about her work with NanGo Grannies (
http://www.nangogrannies.org/ ). In 2005, a group of women were deeply moved when Stephen Lewis told them of the plight of AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa.
