Program:
Derek introduced Marie Rickwood as our guest speaker. (Marie is Derek's Mom)
She is a writer and has written several books. She started a novel but ‘life got in the way’ and she never finished. After life settled down, (a number of years later) she decided to take up writing again. She first wrote ‘Hornet’s in the Office’ which is all about things that happen in business. As she says ‘it’s everything about a business except the business’. This book was a learning experience and after a couple of years she met a fire chief and the next book ‘Behind the Smoke’ was under way. The latest book is ‘Rules for Living on Earth’ which is about a disbeliever who must meet the ‘rules’ before meeting his creator.
She says that publishing is not like it used to be where authors would send their manuscripts to publishers and hope for the best. Now many authors self publish to get their books out to the public.
What’s next for Marie? Finishing the novel she started back in 1961!
