Program:
Our own Tyler Brown was the speaker tonight.  He is an urban planner by training with a masters in urban planning.  And of course a new city councilor.  His theme was that cities are for people and they should be designed for people and lasting community prosperity.
'Tactical Urbanism' is a deliberate approach to city making that uses short term action to instigate long term change. Some examples he gave were:
  • Signs with the walking times between places of interest
  • Jane’s walks through cities
  • Board games in DK plaza that provide spaces for people of all walks of life to meet and talk and visit.
  • The Urban art gallery project to improve the vitality of downtown.
  • Thursday night street market
One of his closing remarks was 'Speak to why you are doing something not what you are doing. The world we get is the one we build. '
A really interesting talk.  Thanks Tyler!

Burger & Beer Night
The burger and beer night at the White spot was a success. Thanks to all who came and special thanks to Barney and Jim for organizing, to Ian for Wine Draw Wizardry and to Sue for wielding the Square.  We netted just over $2300 - all while having a great time.
