Questions Answered:
A woman returning from a fishing trip with her husband told her troubles to a neighbour. “I did EVERYTHING wrong again,” she said. “I talked too loudly, I used the wrong bait, I reeled in to soon… and I caught more than he did.”
Program:
Lt. Daryl Dudley talked about the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps which is a group for boys and girls between 12 and 18.
Leadership, citizenship, community service are all goals for these young people. They hold training nights every Tuesday from September to June. Seamanship, marksmanship, drill and boating are some of the skills taught in the program. About once a month, there are weekend 'on boards' for additional training.
Cadets are eligible for scholarships from 750 to 5000 as well as various awards for excellence. There are also opportunities for international exchange and deployments aboard HM Canadian Ships and Coast Guard vessels. There are also summer training courses available for durations of up to six weeks
Chief Martin talked about the opportunity he had to train on one of the Orca Class Navy ships. Chief Macllquahm talked about the BC Cadet Honour Band. He went to Victoria for some intensive training and then then toured around the Island with a finale in Vancouver.
This was an excellent talk and the two young men showed how confident they have become.
Did I mention that you get to meet pretty girls too!
