Announcements:
A big thank you to all involved with the 50th Anniversary night. There were numerous comments about how much people enjoyed the night.
November is Foundation Month. Please give some thought to donating to this very worthwhile cause. It's what keeps our Rotary projects funded.
And with that in mind, Larry Rumming was presented an additional Paul Harris award for his commitment to the foundation. This is number five for Larry!
Larry also reported that the last Loaves and Fishes went well.
Rob reminded us that the next Rotary Breakfast will be coming up on the 12th.
Greg Willmon was given a plaque for all the help that his company (Budget) has given the club over the years.
Please give some thought to our club Christmas meeting on the 20th of December. We'll get a show of hands during the next meeting to get an idea of who is planning to attend.
Put the 17th of December on your calendar for the Nanaimo 5 club Rotary Christmas Gala
I have many hidden talents. I just wish I could remember where I hid them.
Program:
The program tonight was about the BC Cancer Foundation and the work they do for the province and in particular for Vancouver Island.
We had two speakers:
Jane Evans is the Senior Devoplment Officer for Vancouver Island based in Victoria. Jane's career has been in sales and she took those skills and put them to work to fundraise for the post-secondary and healthcare sectors a number of years ago.
William Litchfield is the Executive Director for Vancouver Island based in Nanaimo. He leads the Vancouver Island team and two dedicated Advisory Councils focused on enhancing funding for research, equipment and care within our communities.
They gave us an update on the world-class cancer research, treatment and care we are so fortunate to have at our Victoria Cancer Centre.
