THE OFFICIAL ROTARY FLAG
The Rotary flag consists of a white field with the official wheel emblem in gold in the center of the field The four depressed spaces on the rim of the Rotary wheel are colored royal blue. The words "Rotary" and "International' printed at the top and bottom depressions on the wheel rim are also gold. The shaft in the hub and the key way of the wheel are white.
In 1922 a small Rotary flag was carried over the South Pole by Admiral Richard Byrd, a member of the Winchester, Virginia Rotary Club. Four years later, the admiral carried a Rotary flag in his expedition to the North Pole.
The Rotary flag is always prominently displayed at the World Headquarters as well as at all conventions and official events of Rotary International.

Program:
Our speaker, well know to us, Paul Manly (City Councillor and former member of parliament) was wearing his Executive Direstor of Nanaimo Unitarian Shelter hat and talked about the great work that Unitarian Shelter does in Nanaimo helping the unhoused.

For 15 years the Shelter on Townsite Road has served as a temporary home for hundreds of adults struggling with poverty (including students and elderly) disabilities, low wages, mental illness and addictions. The organization is a leader in helping the unhoused. A staff member, Jessica, now does vulnerability assessments identifying those who need to be on the BC Assessment list for emplopyment, treatment and/or social assistance. A new facility is being built but it is estimated tht Nanaimo has over 1000 people in need of shelter with onlt 69 shelter beds. Paul also taked about the Shower Program funded by the City and the Clean Team where shelter guests contribute to improving the neighbourhood. Thank you Paul for a very informative talk about a very worthwhile charity.
