INTERACT

Interact, the Rotary youth program, was launched by the RI Board of Directors in 1962. The first Interact club was established by the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Florida. Interact clubs provide opportunities for boys and girls of secondary school age to work together in a world fellowship of service and international understanding. Every Interact club must be sponsored and supervised by a Rotary club and must plan annual projects of service to its school, community and in the world.
Today there are over 7,200 Interact clubs with more than 155,000 members in 88 countries. "Interactors" develop skills in leadership and attain practical experience in conducting service projects, thereby learning the satisfaction that comes from serving others. A major goal of Interact is to provide opportunities for young people to create greater understanding and goodwill with youth throughout the world

August is Membership and New Club Development month.

Reports:
Fund raising. (Jim)
Garage sale. We are looking for a suitable location that is donated to us. If we cannot find one we can focus on
selling donated items on Facebook Marketplace. The proposed date is Saturday October 24 with set up on Friday afternoon October 23.
Beer and Burger will be held at the Legion in the large hall on Tuesday November 24 at 6 pm. As this is our regular meeting night it will take the place of a program.
Hot dog stand at Nanaimo Hospital Auxiliary Thrift store.
We have the equipment to do this. Gerry has been asked to approach Country Grocers regarding donation of wieners, buns and condiments. If that happens we will be doing a trial one in late August or early September. Will need about 6 volunteers to prep and run the stand. Jim will suggest that Gerry approach Country Grocer about holding the sale at the Country grocer location as there is very limited space outside the Thrift store.

Salvation Army breakfast (Don)  Don attended the meeting at the new facility and provided some slides to illustrate the nice new dining areas and the new kitchen ( with the equipment that we bought) SA want us back doing the Saturday Breakfast  but they have to work out their own schedules etc first.  Hopefully we can get started again soon as this was a hands on project which members enjoyed and brought in new members.

Program:
Derek introduced Janice Perrino, a City of Nanaimo councillor and Regional District of Nanaimo director - but  speaking tonight as CEO of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. It was obvious from the presentation that Janice is passionate about our hospital and getting the necessary improvements and expansions. We are lucky to have Janice leading the charge for funding.
