Announcements:
  • The Symphony generated $352 in popcorn sales.
  • Last Saturday's breakfast had (we think) quite a few tent city folks.  We served about 300 meals.
  • Derek is working on committees - let him know if you have thoughts or suggestions
  • Ed presented the budget at the last executive meeting and it passed at this weeks regular meeting.
  • We received $3500 from the Dragon Boat Beer Gardens this year.  Congratulations again to all our members and friends that volunteered.
Birthdays:
  • Jeff Tomlinson on August 23
Anniversaries:
  • Jeff Tomlinson and Robin (28 years)
  • Rod and Val (39 years)
  • Paul and Cathy (39 years)
  • Gill and Chris (48 years)
Points to Ponder:
I recently heard my wife admit to a friend that she sometimes wakes up grumpy in the morning.
And sometimes she lets me sleep.

Program
Bob Moss stepped in at the last minute to help us out with the program.  He recently completed a clockwise circumnavigation on Vancouver Island – a trip that took him 40 days (with lots of stops along the way).  His brother and two sisters joined him for the first leg of the trip to Victoria and then it was on to Barkley Sound with stops at Ecluelet and Tofino.  Then they were off to Nootka Sound, Brooks Peninsula (possibly the best scenery he said), Quatsino and Port Alice.
After going round Cape Scott they picked up their granddaughter in Telegraph Cove and headed out to look for whales.  More stops before coming home where they swapped grandchildren along the way.  What a great adventure!  Thanks to Bob for sharing – as always some of our most interesting stories come from our own members.
