Coffee fundraiser - Barney said preparations are being made for the club to sell fresh roasted coffee at $15 per pound. Sue Gibson has added a payment system to the club website so that orders can be processed online.

Brechin School thank you. Bill Robinson conveyed the thank you from the school to our club for our volunteer help.

Shy fellow that he is, Bill did not mention the ceremony at Georgia School where he introduced the Be The Best Me You Can Be program.

Program
Bashir El-Khalafawi, District Chair for the Paul Harris Society Vancouver Island, explained that the Paul Harris Society is named after Rotary’s founder. The purpose of the Society is to identify and engage Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who have the ability and desire to make contributions of US$1,000 or more each year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved Foundation global grants to help communities around the world.
A Paul Harris Society level contribution provide:
- Vocational training for teachers who are establishing an early childhood education center in South Africa
- Supplying water filters, toilet blocks, and hygiene training to prevent fluorosis in India
- Offering peace-building seminars to 200 teachers and 1,300 students in Uganda
- Distributing treated mosquito nets and offering medical services that help prevent malaria in Mali
Members of the Paul Harris Society are eligible to receive wearable recognition to show their yearly commitment to Doing Good in the World. The chevrons can be worn with the Paul Harris Fellow pin, Major Donor pin, and the Bequest Society pin.
After Bashir's presentation, Rob Waine explained the history of volcanic activity in Hawaii including the recent eruptions which have destroyed property.
Birthdays & Anniversaries. Over John Pike's protests we sang for his birthday which was 10 days ago.
Ian Thompson left early so we couldn't acknowledge his birthday & wedding anniversary last week.
