Meeting: June 18th, 2019 Installation Night

Referee in Charge (Master of Ceremonies): Ian Thompson

Visiting Rotarians:
Incoming Presidents Barry Sparkes - Lantzville, Janeane Coutu - Downtown, Doug Lum - Daybreak

Program:
The night was a hockey themed event that was all about celebrating the installation of Barney Sharp as Captain (President) and the incoming executive.  Why hockey?  Barney is a big fan and has played hockey since age 11 when he started at the Capilano winter club.  We are all looking forward to Barney's year.
In his speech he said he was glad to be in a growing club and he is looking forward to working on the 50th anniversary project.  He also talked about moving forward with a new fund raiser - The Rotary Island Ale Trail - which he hopes will be an ongoing project.  He also said that social media will be a priority and Barney encouraged us all to participate.
By the way, this was Barney and Sarah’s 31st wedding anniversary. As he said, imagine a wife giving up her anniversary evening to attend a Rotary dinner!
Barney was presented with the clock given to us a number of years ago from the Rotary Club of Akita East Japan. The current president keeps this clock in their custody for the club.

Past President:
Paul Geneau gave the 2018-2019 presidents report and highlighted some items from his year as President such as hosting Julia as an inbound student and sending outbound students.  And the club grew by a few members (more women and younger!)
He reminded us to 'Be the inspiration!' which was our slogan for the year and thanked his wife Cathy for her support.
Paul was given the imaginary print in appreciation of his year as President

Bruce Coleman Award:
The Bruce Coleman Rotarian of the year award went to Don Dempson. We didn’t even have to explain to him what a rotary Rotary Phone was.

Installation:
Wayne Anderson (Assistance Governor) gave us some remarks and congratulated the current executive for the work they have done this year and for supporting the various foundation programs. Wayne also installed the incoming executive members for 2019-2020.

Your Executive For 2019-2020:
President: Barney Sharp
President Elect: Glynis Hayes
Past President: Paul Geneau
Secretary: Sue Gibson
Treasurer: Ed Poli
Directors: Perry Williams, Larry Rumming, Jeff Tomlinson, Don Dempson, Rod Smith and Gill Campbell
