Colin's Rotary Minute:
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS
Each year, Rotary International holds a worldwide convention "to stimulate, inspire and inform all Rotarians at an international level." The convention, which may not be held in the same country for more than two consecutive years, is the annual meeting to conduct the business of the association. The planning process usually begins about four or five years in advance.
The RI board determines a general location and invites cities to make proposals. The conventions are truly international events which 20,000 to 40,000 Rotarians and guests attend. All members should plan to participate in a Rotary International convention to discover the real internationality of Rotary. It is an experience you'll never forget.

Reports:

Our Garage Sale is on June 13. Members are needed to set up on June 12, help out and clean up on June 13.
The address is 7187 Lantzville Road. Donated items will be accepted there on Friday June 12 from Noon till 5PM. If you have items but are unable to drop them off on the 12th please contact Jim at 250-755-6903 to make arrangements to get them to his storage locker.  Please remember we seek donations of all items except artwork and larger furniture.
We will also need tables to display the items.  If you have any folding tables please contact Ed.
We need to promote this fundraiser to make it a success.  Don has, as usual, created a great poster.  Please send it to all your friends and associates.

Paul sent a written report on Youth Services and the  SeeCan project:
*Regarding Youth Services, Youth Exchange in Nanaimo is going smoothly. Our three Inbounds are finishing up a successful year, our three Outbounds are getting ready to come home, our three future Inbounds are applying for visas and on track to arrive here in August, with three more Outbounds getting ready to leave for their year away. It will be a big summer for the Short Term program, with six exchanges happening in Nanaimo, which is 1/3 of the short term exchanges for the whole district!
*The See Can project has had a bit of a delay. Dr. Allen Jones had planned to drive a truck full of equipment and supplies from Calgary to go into the container, but has had to postpone the trip.

Larry reminded us that next Tuesday, May 26 is our night to help out at t Loaves and Fishes.

Ed wants to spend surplus funds by June 30 and is asking if any members have worthwhile pet projects to which we can donate  There will be a special Board meeting on June 2nd to review potential donees.

Cinco de Mayo was a success and is being considered for an annual fundraiser.
